The Adolescent Girls Read, Engaged and Empowered (AGREE) Project implemented by CASFOD in Borno State has a goal to support 300 adolescent girls in primary 5, 6 and JSS3 of Mafa, Maiduguri and Jere Local Government Areas (LGAs) to obtain quality education through technological solutions while being actively engaged in addressing issues that impact their lives and the environment they live in and develop resilience by engaging in income-generating endeavors.
While the program intends to support children out of school to learn through mobile phones, CASFOD has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Faculty of Education, University of Maiduguri to support evidence based research on assessment gaps in primary schools and its impacts on the quality of education. This will support advocacy initiatives aimed at improving the quality of education.
Furthermore, the project seeks to support girls prevent different forms of Gender Based Violence (GBV) including setting up reporting systems and creating awareness on the different risks identified at the schools. The girls will aalso be engaged in climate education including climate action and lead initiatives that reduce the impact of climate action in their communities.
The program will also empower girls through skills acquisation programs to support their transition and completion as well as provide financial asistance to maintain adequate menstrual hygiene.
The program planned for 3 years is intended to scale up to Sokoto and Adamawa State and will collaborate effectively with government stakeholders and other International and National NGOs.
