CASFOD signs a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Faculty of Education
of University of Maiduguri to support its research on the impact of learning
assessment gaps on the quality of learning outcomes for basic education in Bornoand Sokoto States of Nigeria.
Represented by the Sub-Dean of the Faculty, the faculty is supporting with a principal
investigator who is the research lead supported by another assistant investigator.
According to UNICEF, over 75 per cent of primary school age pupils in Nigeria
are unable to read with understanding or solve simple arithmetic.
Part of several challenges resulting to the low learning outcome for basic education is the gap in
learning assessment which exists in many schools where teachers do not place measures to
evaluate the learning of children after lessons are delivered.
The research is aimed at leading advocacy towards strengthening and coordinating
formative and summative assessments at primary and junior secondary schools
which is expected to improve the quality of learning outcomes at the schools.
